Alfredo Chaves
is another excellent site. It is the most frequently used take-off
in the state of Espirito Santo. It is easily accessible and this is
very beneficial if you have a short flight and need to get back up
quickly. That means you get more opportunity to fine-tune your
thermalling technique and, hopefully, get away on an XC. As with the
other sites we use, there are numerous safe landing areas. It also
has great XC potential and flights can be made to the coast in the
right conditions. With a vertical drop of 1,500' it is smaller than
Valadares and Castelo but still bigger than many British sites.
The proximity of the coast, and some outstanding beaches, makes this
a favourite location with non-flying partners.
