What you can
expect:
You will be met at the airport in Rio de Janeiro. You will be transferred to your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. The journey is quite long and we will stop for refreshments along the way.
The price is based on shared hotel rooms, each
with en-suite bathroom, television and either ceiling fan or
air-conditioning. Some rooms also have Wi-Fi facilities. If you are
travelling with a partner or friend and have specific requirements
please let us know at the time of booking. If you prefer a single
room this can be arranged at a small supplement.
The following morning, after you’ve had time to
recover and eaten a good breakfast, you will be collected from the
hotel. We will have a brief introductory talk and then make our way
up to take-off for a site briefing and the first flight. You will
probably be quite tired after the journey so the first day will be
used just to blow away any cobwebs and as an introduction to the
area.
The take-off areas that we use are large, clean
and well-maintained. Winds are usually light on take-off and should
cause you no problem at all but there will always be one of us there
to offer assistance where necessary. Please remember that although
we will be offering advice and guidance where possible, this is
essentially a fly-guiding service and not a cross-country course.
You must be self-reliant, able to take off and land autonomously,
and capable of making your own decisions.
You will usually have an experienced pilot to follow in the air and a retrieve driver following by road, both with radio communication. It is our intention that most of you will considerably improve your thermalling technique and knowledge of cross-country flying. By developing these skills, you will fly with greater confidence and really start to enjoy the challenge. It is normal, for pilots coming to Valadares, to significantly increase their ‘personal bests’ in terms of distance and air-time.
Once you land you will be collected by the
retrieve driver then it’s off to the bar for a relaxing drink and
debrief on the days flying.
