Dean Crosby has spent most of his life in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, where he has been running his own paragliding school, Active Edge, for the past 26 years. This makes it one of the longest-running and most successful paragliding schools in the UK today.
Dean has been flying for almost 35 years and teaching, both hang gliding and paragliding, for 30 years. He is, without doubt, one of the most experienced instructors and cross-country pilots in the UK today.
During this time he’s captained both the British Hang Gliding and the British Paragliding Teams. He’s been the British Paragliding Champion and the British Paragliding Cross-Country Champion in 1993 and again in 2006. Dean is the only pilot to have competed at national level in all three soaring disciplines.
He’s served on the prestigious BHPA Flying and Safety committee, with responsibility for all pilot training.
Dean has taught hundreds of people to fly, from 70+ year old recreational pilots to the 2005 British Hang Gliding Champion. Many of his ex-students have competed in the British Paragliding Nationals with a number of them going on to represent Great Britain.
Dean first visited Brazil in 1994 and was one of the first guides to teach groups in Governador Valadares, considered by many to be one of the best paragliding locations on the planet.
Today when many instructors rarely fly, Dean is still fanatical about flying cross-country. He’s taught at every level, from first day students to coaching competition pilots in the nationals and he’ll make sure you get the most possible out of your flying holiday in Brazil.
